The financial services industry is not the only regulated industry that is trying to figure out how to embrace and use social media to connect with its audience. Recently I took on a new client (Jason Bellak, MD) that is using social media to connect with his patients and provide timely and relevant information on the issues that the medical profession faces on a daily basis. Like the financial services industry, the medical profession suffers from an overwhelming amount of coverage and information that requires filtration to cut through the noise.
Below is a video entitled “The Doctor is Online: Physician Use, Responsibility, and Opportunity in the Time of Social Media” — a project conceived by Dr. Bryan Vartabedian, a pediatric gastroenterologist at Texas Children’s Hospital. In the video several experienced physicians who are also active in social media provide advice and insights to young doctors just beginning their residency training. If you listen closely you will note how their advice could apply to the financial services industry and other businesses that are looking to tip toe into the social space.
